I Said YES!!

May 14, 2013

This past weekend was hands down the best weekend of my entire life! After heading to NYC for what I thought was just a celebration birthday weekend for Erik, it turned out to be an elaborate, very well thought out plan he had been working on for months…our ENGAGEMENT!

How It Happened:

Erik and I flew up to New York late on Friday, May 10th. After arriving in Manhattan well past midnight, we headed to my family’s apartment on the Upper East side and did the quintessential New Yorker thing….ordered Chinese food delivery.

We/(I) slept in the next morning until about 10:00 a.m. (I later found out that while I thought Erik was also sleeping, he had been up since 6 a.m. putting the final touches on my big surprise!). After I woke up, Erik suggested that we go to our favorite breakfast spot – Sarabeth’s in Central Park. Nothing fishy here – we always eat at Sarabeth’s, however when Erik put on his favorite navy suit, I just knew something was up. I asked him what he wanted me to wear, and he picked out my fancy gold dress – at this point I had a fit because who wears a suit and dress to breakfast?! I begged him to leave his jacket at home, but he insisted on bringing it – - and refused to put it on…hmmm…

In my head I knew something was up, but didn’t think that it would actually be happening on Saturday morning, so I just went along. I developed this crazy plan in my head that all the people in Sarabeth’s would think that we were going to a wedding later in the day, thus why we were dressed so fancy!

After breakfast at Sarabeth’s, Erik told me that we were going to see an art exhibit at The Plaza hotel around the corner. He FINALLY put his suit jacket on, and I kept my cool as we took the short walk from Sarabeth’s over to The Plaza. Once we walked in, Erik shook hands and basically hugged the extremely overly excited maitre d’ and he then walked us upstairs to the Rose Room which overlooks the Champagne Lounge.

As soon as we sat down (I didn’t even have time to take off my jacket!), Erik started talking. I stopped him and said “WAIT! Shouldn’t we order a drink first?!” He was shocked and looked around and then I said “OK, never mind – keep going, keep going!” After a beautiful speech about how much he loves me and wants to spend the rest of his life with me, Erik got down on one knee and asked! “YES! Of Course!” I said!

In true Erik fashion, he thought of absolutely everything – and had both our parents waiting nearby and an incredible photographer (also his long time good friend, Cary) capturing every single moment.

Many more pictures to come from Cary Smith of CSM photography – but here is a little sneak preview!

Absolutely, the best weekend of our lives. We are so grateful to be able to share it with our friends, family and all of you! Much, much more to come, including more pics from our fairytale engagement weekend at The Plaza…stay tuned!

Also, a very happy birthday today to my fiance – I love you babe!

Amanda

Elephant Prints

April 24, 2013

Yesterday, the fabulous Carmen from Viva Fashion posted my yellow & pink outfit as her look of the day – this has inspired me to resurrect LISD and bring you another outfit of the day – today’s elephant inspired outfit!
I have been kind of obsessed with elephants lately. Specifically, elephants with their trunks up. This symbolizes good luck, and elephants are just too cute – so I’ve been trying to incorporate them into my daily routine! (I even had a dream about an elephant last night – - too weird!) I picked up this awesome purple elephant at HomeGoods a while ago, and it sits right on my main floor in perfect view, I have a purple elephant Hermes bangle bracelet:

And this past weekend, I went shopping at Anthropologie where I picked up an elephant scarf and an elephant shirt!

Shirt: Anthro

Pants: Carmar

Shoes: Vintage

Purse: LV

What’s your favorite animal print?!

Demanda

BluePrintCleanse – Day 3

January 19, 2013

So that’s a wrap! I did it. I completed the 3 day BluePrintCleanse!! It got extremely difficult around drink 5 last night, but with some encouraging words from Erik – I powered through and stayed strong. Looking back, 3 days is nothing! ;)

The results:

7 lbs. I lost 7 pounds!! I had an insane amount of energy (without coffee – - who even knew that was possible?!) and I feel completely clean and rejuvenated.

This morning I had to introduce solid foods again, I can’t lie – I was a little nervous. I started with a glass of hot green tea, and then had some fresh strawberries, raspberries and pineapple. So far – so good. At least I remembered how to chew! I also bought some apple slices to help get me through the day – excited to continue this journey!

BluePrintCleanse – Day 2

January 18, 2013

Finishing up day 2 of no solid foods – only juice, water, tea consumption! About to pour myself a nice glass of Juice 6 – the cashew milk that I swear tastes like milk & cookies. Tonight I think I’ll try it over ice, like my BluePrintCleanse mentor suggested.

I won’t bore you with another round of the exact same pictures as yesterday – same exact juice for 3 days, remember?! (See BluePrintCleanse -Day 1)

Only one of my favorite juice…

Juice 2!! I swear I could drink this every day, its so freaking delicious.

….and this selfie gem I took of myself getting through Juice 4. I may have been getting delirious at this point.

My co-workers continued their criticisms of my dedication to the cleanse, and even took to social media to post pictures of me getting through the day! I can’t lie – today was MUCH harder than yesterday. I started the day with really strong, positive thinking, but then the hunger pains started. It was pretty much a mind-over-matter situation. I know I’m going to get through this, so really…what’s one more day?! I also treated myself to an unsweetened grande green iced-tea from Starbucks, that definitely helped get me through the lunch hour.

And these wise words from my BluePrintCleanse mentor around 4:30pm really helped:  “Stay strong, there will be a light at the end of the tunnel when you wake up tomorrow.”

I sure hope so. As of right now, I don’t feel much different. Just hungry. More to come tomorrow!

Disclaimer:

Negative side-affects: Luckily I made it through the night last night without having to get up to go pee, I wasn’t sure I could given the day I had! Today it was back to the same routine, bathroom breaks every 30 minutes this time, rather than the 15 yesterday! Hey – I think I’m getting used to this :)

BluePrintCleanse – Day 1

January 17, 2013

Enough is enough! After the insanely fattening holiday season I just had, and my 25th birthday around the corner, I decided that something needed to be done and I needed to get back on track to get healthy. Thus I found the BluePrintCleanse. After doing my research, and consulting my co-worker/BluePrint mentor, I decided to give it a shot. Placed the order on Monday, and awaited delivery today.

First things first, you have to prep your body for this. Don’t go eating a BigMac the night before you start! Take a look at BluePrint’s guidelines for 3 days, 2 days, and 1 day before your cleanse. So I followed the rules, and was ready to start this morning. I kicked off the day with a room temp glass of water and some hot green tea. Then I waited, and waited, and WAITED. Apparently my delivery that was supposed to get to my office at 10:30 a.m. was delayed because of the weather (thanks A LOT North East snow storm!) So I waited, and drank more green tea, and called the FedEx office to yell, and waited some more. Finally – when I thought I just couldn’t wait any longer – - – it arrived! I ripped open the package, and before I even had time to think, I dug into the first juice.

Juice 1 is filled with romaine, celery, cucumber, apple, spinach, kale, parsley and lemon. I think it tastes like really clean, lemony grass. And I happen to like that sort of thing :)

Since I started so late, I had to accelerate the drinking – BluePrint recommends you put AT LEAST 1 hour between each juice with your last juice of the day 2 hours before bedtime, so I drank them according to this schedule:

12:00 – Juice 1

1:30 – Juice 2

3:00 – Juice 3

4:40 – Juice 4

6:40 – Juice 5

8:00 – Juice 6

Juice 2 was definitely my favorite today. How can you go wrong with pineapple, apple and mint?! I had to refrain myself from chugging this one too fast.

Juice 3 was the same as Juice 1 – so I already knew what I was in for…

Juice 4 was interesting, but definitely not as filling as Juice 1 - this one basically tasted like spicy lemonade, and as it should because it contains water, lemon, agave nectar and cayenne! Definitely delicious, but I could feel the hunger pains starting after this one.

I got to enjoy Juice 5 at home…while cooking Erik’s dinner. Hey – if I can’t eat it, I might as well be able to see it and smell it, right?! Wrong. It was torture! This juice was great though – really refreshing and bright and it satisfied my hunger pains. I love beets, so I knew I would be all over the apple, carrot, beet, lemon & ginger blend.

Ahhh Juice 6. The final Juice of day one – I made it! Not going to lie, this one was not my favorite. Water, cashews, agave, vanilla and cinnamon – I think it tasted like a cookie with milk, the only problem – I HATE MILK. Ha! Jokes on me. I drank it though, and tried to get past the strange texture (which I assume was the blended cashews). I almost did too – until I had about 2 sips left. I got a big gulp of the textured milky drink and barely choked it down. Needless to say – those last 2 sips stayed in the bottle. Hopefully tomorrow’s Juice 6 experience goes over a little better!

All in all, a good day. I kept up a positive attitude, even though all my co-workers were making fun of me and trying to shoot me down! I’m excited for day 2 & 3 – BRING IT ON!

Disclaimer:

Negative side-affects – - I’m pretty sure I had to pee every 15 minutes, at one point I contemplated posting up with my laptop in the bathroom! I also had a slight headache just creeping up on me the entire day. But that’s it! Everything else seems to be going smoothly…..for now…..
